High-fidelity of the no -box count variety is getting more and more hyped as companies such as Linn have started to recognize – what I’m going to refer as – the new stylish-fi market, and their new $3,700 USD ($6,850 USD/pair) Series 3 all-in-one wireless speaker seems directly targeted at it.

I was in denial for about a week. The Rossini Master Clock arrived and I purposefully ignored its shipping box after tucking it in a corner of the dining room. I think it was because I was so happy with the sound from the dCS Rossini DAC in my system that I didn’t want to mess with it.

The cost of high-fidelity is something of a flash point in the hobby for many who see $10k USD DACs as outrageous and long for pricing more down-to-earth.

He was worried. My friend, you see, was worried. He was worried because he’d been listening to some high-resolution audio files and found he preferred them to standard CD-quality. He called me and asked if I could come over.

We’ve all seen the person shaking their head at the Apple Store’s Genius Bar, or at a local computer repair shop. Gesturing futilely at a laptop, or PC because hardware has gone wrong or they can’t figure out a software problem.

Hello darkness, my old friend. Sigh. It was inevitable, really. Using Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” as a metaphor for the Aurender W20 Music Server. As soon as I switched over to it from the Aurender N10 the difference was noticeable enough that the song leapt to the fore of mind and I blurted out. “Shit.”

Never a company to rest on their laurels, PS Audio today made available another Operating System update – Windom – for their DirectStream DAC and DirectStream Junior DAC.

There’s something to be said for big monitors hooked up to hi-fi racks bursting with gleaming alloy boxes in a chic, modern, designer showroom.

It was touch-and-go for awhile. Except I kept wanting to touch and not go. I wanted to touch and stay and listen. It wasn’t like I couldn’t stop myself. What am I talking about? The main control dial on the top of the Linn Selekt DSM Katalyst with Integrated Power Amplifier of course.

It was only a matter of time until, arguably, the biggest service provider on the planet brought Thor’s hammer down on the competition.
