There is something in human nature that enjoys a bit of voyeurism, compels ordinary men and women to look into their neighbors’ windows while walking down the street at night, inventing stories of the things that live and happen inside.

Barn Update (!) 07.19.17: the stunning dCS Network Bridge has taken up permanent residence in my system. Why? Because I like it. I like it because it lets me get deeper into my music, leaving thoughts of reproduction and the like in the rear-view more so.

It's that time again. Lovely Recordings has become an indispensable aspect of the AudioStream genome and I want (need?) to keep it going: Sharing music being one of the loveliest things we can do in this fine hobby.

Is there such a thing as the perfect song? For each of us, the answer is a resounding "Yes". Is that song, or are those songs, the same amongst us? The answer is a resounding "Probably not." Feel free to substitue darn-near-anything for "song" and the same holds true—painting, pizza, spouse, DAC, etc.—non-ubiquity. How do we survive?

Ceci n'est pas AudioStream

A point of clarity: some people have complained that I am being, "I" being me/Michael, _____ (fill in with your variant of mean) in my responses to some comments: "Gee, all I said was your post was [or you were] _____ ( pick one or add your own—lame, crap, shit, nothing more than an ad, shilling, idiotic, dumb, stupid, etc.) Why so defensive?" I'll tell you why.

After a near-near nearly non-fatal incident caught in the nick of time, Audiophile Dudes are back! You may notice a slight change in the background music which you may or may not recognize as The Eagles "Hotel California". In any event, try to image it is. Feel free to cue it up and play along. Enjoy!

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us He's all
To himself I think I know why

Tom Waits, from "What's He Building"

artwork by Peter Brötzmann (that's my signed poster!) WARNING: some people may find this image offensive

On Wednesday, June 7, John DeVore, Stephen Mejias and I worked our way to downtown Brooklyn and into one of my new favorite places, ISSUE Project Room, to see and hear Peter Brötzmann (reeds) and Heather Leigh (electric pedal steel guitar) tear the place up.

Did you ever wonder what the inside of a Fi looks like? Between the sheets, so to speak? I'm not talking about capacitor types and signal path lengths, I'm talking about seeing past the parts into the heart and soul of the beast to have a look at what makes it tick. I had the good fortune along with Stephen Mejias, John DeVore and Nori Komuro to be invited over to Don Garber's place to hear a new amplifier he's working on and have a look in and around the place called Fi.

Once upon a time, four boys, two from Western Sahara and two from Big Sur, visited Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Upon seeing The Tree of Life in the Animal Kingdom, the boys from Western Sahara exclaimed, "Wow, that's a big tree!" while the boys from Big Sur said, "Hmm. That tree is not very big."

The end.

"Its too bad she won't live, but then again who does?

There's still a small war raging against MQA on the interwebs. While I'm not surprised, as there are countless small wars still raging on the interwebs, I thought I'd have some fun with the inherent contradictions raging in any small war on the interwebs. Enjoy!
