Just Don't Call Me Late To Dinner
To call the Bluesound PULSE Soundbar a soundbar is like calling the iPhone a phone. What the Bluesound PULSE Soundbar really is, is an all-in-one music and movie sound system (well, you can add a sub and multiroom stuff with other Bluesound devices). Why review a soundbar? Didn't I just say it doesn't make sense to call it a soundbar?

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us He's all
To himself I think I know why

Tom Waits, from "What's He Building"

Did you ever wonder what the inside of a Fi looks like? Between the sheets, so to speak? I'm not talking about capacitor types and signal path lengths, I'm talking about seeing past the parts into the heart and soul of the beast to have a look at what makes it tick. I had the good fortune along with Stephen Mejias, John DeVore and Nori Komuro to be invited over to Don Garber's place to hear a new amplifier he's working on and have a look in and around the place called Fi.

artwork by Peter Brötzmann (that's my signed poster!) WARNING: some people may find this image offensive

On Wednesday, June 7, John DeVore, Stephen Mejias and I worked our way to downtown Brooklyn and into one of my new favorite places, ISSUE Project Room, to see and hear Peter Brötzmann (reeds) and Heather Leigh (electric pedal steel guitar) tear the place up.

Iona Fortune's Tao Of I, released on Optimo Music last month, is the first in a series of eight releases exploring the symbols of the I Ching, the oldest Chinese divination text (the core text dates somewhere between the 10th and 4th centuries BC) and still heavyweight champion.

The guys at Sonore and Small Green Computer recently released a software upgrade to their SonicOrbitor OS, version 2.5, which is delivered via hardware, a microSD card. The cost is $20 including shipping (or should that read—mailing?) and performing the upgrade takes all of minutes. The result? A better microRendu.

There are two things that don't have to mean anything; one is music and the other is laughter.—Immanuel Kant

We can dance until we die.—Katy Perry

Track 6

While I certainly carry around my fair share of Puerto Rican Catholic guilt, I have never in my life felt guilt over music.

Yes, you read that right. HDtracks, the grandfather of hi-res download sites, will be launching their own streaming service, HDmusicStream, which will feature all MQA-encoded music all the time, later this year.
