The Spring Music Mix

The Spring Mix

This is the fourth of four seasonal mixes by resident AudioStream DJ Scott Eastlick that will be gracing the pages here on a solstice-type schedule. We started with the Summertime Music Mix late in 2018 because Eastlick wasn’t onboard at AudioStream as a contributor by June of last year, but the The Fall Mix and The Winter Mix caught us up to the glory that now is Spring.

– Rafe Arnott

Where my Winter Mix was an obscure selection intended to be enjoyed in isolation while shrouded in headphones and framed by frosted windows, the spring season finds me emerging from my musical shell with a more social selection – fresh like newly grown flowers or a pair of recently purchased sneakers.

If my last mix was dark and foreboding, this one is playful and romantic, reflecting the fact that in springtime lust and love feel like the same thing.

The illustration gave me a hard edged flashback to a Morton Subotnick concert I went to - it looks very much like him at the plug board of his Buchla. And the album he was promoting at the time was... Until Spring.

I’ve enjoyed him since I picked up “Touch” in quad way back when. I saw him at U of Maryland about 5 years ago, still amazing stuff.

Just pulled up Morton Subotnick on Roon, and that's the cover art from his album Until Spring.

A bit different than the other cuts on the list...
