Rokia Traoré: Tchamantche

Another worldly stunner this time from Malian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Rokia Traoré. Backed by musicians playing traditional African instruments including n'gouni, classical harp, and kora, with the addition of acoustic and electric guitar (Rokia plays a 1967 Gretsch Country Gentleman), percussion, a complete drum kit, and singing mostly in her native tongue, Tchamantche is a tender and warm if somewhat forlorn tasty treat that also happens to be beautifully recorded.

Tchamantche is Rokia Traoré's 4th album and the first to be released on Tama/Nonesuch. You really should give it a listen and make sure you check out her take on George and Ira Gershwin's "The Man I Love".

He'll build a little home, That's meant for two
From which I'll never roam, Who would, would you
And so all else above
I'm dreaming of the man I love

Beyond stunning. This is her best work.

It was actually released world wide in 2008 and in the USA in 2009.

Michael your taste is beyond reproach.

And dude, I feel your pain. 2 days without power and i was not a happy camper.

Hang in there.
