Download of the Week: U.S. Girls

It begins with a blast of Isaac Hayes.

If you want the real skinny on In A Poem Unlimited, the U.S. Girls latest release on 4AD, check in with Stephen Mejias in his latest column where he takes a tour around Manhattan of the album's inspirational places with U.S. Girls Meg Remy at the wheel. Really! There's even a video (see if you can spot Stephen).

I love the U.S Girls. I love their energy, their multivariate musical references, especially to the '60s, all ramped up for today's overdriven pace with lyrics, stories, at once sweet and sardonic. Boom!

We last checked in with Meg Remy back in 2015 with Half Free which I said, "reminds me of the Shangri-Las minus the innocence with the last few decades of music informing the sound". We are back on familiar ground.

If you are in need of jolt in your joy, try on U.S Girls for size. I find them to be a perfect fit.

In A Poem Unlimited is available from 4AD.
