Download of the Week: Stella Donnelly

Stella Donnelly's debut EP, Thrush Metal mixes heavenly vocals and guitar with hellish tales of horrible men. I've known more than my fair share of horrible men so listening to Stella Donnelly's lyrics leave me unsettled in that, "Yes I know" kinda way.

In my experience, abuse goes largely unspoken and is only shared in private moments. The thing of it is, most women I've shared private moments with have their own stories of abuse whether from childhood or adulthood or somewhere in between. If I pause to reflect on current events, which I try not to do too often, we can see how our world is filled with horrible men in positions of power. That makes me angry and sad.

Stella Donnelly has great strength and it comes through loud and clear on Thrush Metal. Get it from Bandcamp.

Why is a grown woman posed in this debased childish manner? The ways of touchy-feely musos (and their earnest defenders) are indeed strange...
