Newer Technology Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet

I saw this handy little item in a pre-CES Press Release from OWC and thought, cool. While I did not see one in person at the show, I still think it's cool. The Newer Technology Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet ($27.99/ea) installs into any existing 16 cubic inch electrical box with a 15Amp circuit and its UL/CUL Listed (E339607) for use in United States & Canada.

That image above shows the Power2U with its little USB doors open for illustrative purposes only. When not in use charging up your Apple iPad (all models), Apple iPhone (all models), Apple iPod (all USB chargeable models), Android™ tablets and phones, tablet computers, cellphones, gaming systems (Nintendo, Sony PSP, etc.), Bluetooth headsets, digital cameras, or GPS devices which charge via standard USB plug they're closed to keep the mice out. OWC also sells them in 10 packs ($229.90), 20 packs ($459.80) and hundred packs ($2,299) so you and all your friends can chip in and save.

A Must for Any Gadget Freak

Bought this from OWC last year. After waiting weeks for it to arrive (due to overwhelming demand), it only took 10 minutes to install (which includes going outside to turn off the circuit off/on). I chose a highly-visible and -trafficked (sic) spot in our kitchen in order to get maximum use of it. It's just like any other wall outlet and the instructions are straight forward. Note: I'm experienced in replacing electrical outlets. If you aren't, or are intimidated, it's worth the $10-$15 for an electrician to do it for you (and eliminate any risk of electrical shock).

It's been working like a champ ever since, and better yet, the WAF was huge since it eliminated the use of several wall warts. Note: because it was designed to charge iPads (which take a fair amount of juice), all other devices charge much faster than if using their respective chargers.

It's not the chargers I mind dealing with, it's the dock cables I misplace. They got one with a retractable dock cable? Nevermind.

One thing I've always liked about this one is that the USB chargers are "smart" --- when not in use they shut off. No vampire power loss.
